Kundapur, Oct 28: In an accident which occurred on the night of Thursday October 27 near Shirur in the taluk, a person died and four others suffered grave injuries. The deceased has been identified as Venkatesh H Naik, native of Hadilu near Bhatkal.

The accident occurred after the driver of the Maruti Omni they were travelling in, lost control over the vehicle. As a result, the van hit a roadside tree. All the four others in the van sustained serious injuries to their heads and limbs. Their names are driver, Chandru Gonda, Nagaraj Gonda, Krishna Gonda, and Sudha.

The people in the van were going to Kundapur for some work. Venkatesh, who was sitting by the side of the driver, whose injuries were of grave nature, breathed his last on the way, before he could be taken to Bhatkal hospital, it is learnt. The other injured were treated in Bhatkal before referring them to Kundapur hospital for further treatment.
