Karwar: Fallen Tree Takes Away Life of Handicapped

Karwar, Oct 29: After a tree got uprooted on four houses located in Tamil Colony near Kadra dam in the taluk on Thursday October 27 night, a man lost his life, while eight others suffered injuries of various degrees.

Because of heavy rain and strong wind, a big tree got uprooted on four houses in Gandhinagar of Tamil Colony at around 11.30 pm. While all others escaped to safety in time, Pandi Shellaiah Tevar (55), who was differently abled, died on the spot. Manjunath (15), Parashuram (19), Nirmala Krishnappa (34), Prashant Vishwanath (7), Eshwari Viswhanath (27), Riyaz Allabaksh Sheikh (35), Saira Riyaz Shekh, and her daughter, Salma Riyaz Sheikah (10), were injured. Out of them, six were discharged after preliminary treatment, while the remaining two are undergoing treatment at the government hospital here.

The loss in the incident is being assessed. A complaint was registered in Kadra police station in this connection.
