Udupi, Oct 29: Convener of National Highway Land Acquisition Affected Persons Committee, Ramadas Nayak, said that the aggrieved are unhappy about the decision by the state High Court relating to the width of the acquisition. He clarified that only those writs in which the affected persons had secured a stay in the preliminary level, have been quashed now.

“The affected persons still have the option of legal remedy to file writ petitions against the final notification and seek redressal of their grievances. All other stay orders except one relating to unjustified land acquisition between Kundapur and Padubidri are in operation. Therefore, the National Highways Authority of India should conduct works only in such stretches where possession of land has been handed over,” he urged.

Nayak said that the state government has asked the concerned departments to move a note before the cabinet, to conduct works only up to a width of 45 metres in these places, by taking into account law of the land. He added that the stay order issued by the court relating to the writ petition seeking quashing of the final notification is still in operation. Mahabala Rai from Mukka too has secured a stay against the acquisition of 60 metres wide land for the highway, by filing a writ against the final notification, he said.
