Mangalore Police off to Hyderabad on Cocaine Trail

Mangalore, Oct 30, DHNS:  With no information coming forth from the Hyderabad police about the arrest of a Mangalorean for peddling narcotics, the Mangalore police has sent a team headed by a police inspector to Hyderabad to get first hand information.

Three days ago, the Hyderabad police seized 808 gram of cocaine, estimated to be worth Rs 80 lakh, from the temple town of Tirupati. Hyderabad Police Commissioner A K Khan said the drugs were brought to Hyderabad in a Volvo bus from Mangalore by Mangalore-based Anthony alias John. It is suspected that Anthony sourced the drugs from Netherlands.

However, Mangalore Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said he has received contradictory information on the entire episode. He said as per the information he received from his sources, the drugs were brought to Mangalore from Hyderabad and not the other way round.

“If the drugs are being supplied to Mangalore from Hyderabad, then it is a serious issue and we will deal with it sternly,” Singh said, adding the police team left for Hyderabad on Saturday to check the reality.

He also added that repeated efforts to get more information from Hyderabad police on the entire episode had failed.

Hyderabad DCP Stephen Ravindra, who is the investigating officer, refused to comment. Sources said that along with Anthony, another person Dheeraj Nayak, said to be a student of Manipal University, was also arrested by the Hyderabad police and further investigations are on.

According to the Hyderabad police commissioner, the peddlers had dumped drugs worth Rs 3 crore into Hyderabad since September last.
