Udupi: DC orders rain holiday for schools, PU colleges in district on July 9

Udupi, Jul 8: Deputy Commissioner Dr Vidya Kumari has declared a holiday for all schools and PU colleges across the entire district on Tuesday, July 9, due to widespread rainfall.

All anganwadis, primary schools, high schools, and Pre-University Colleges (PUC) will remain closed on July 9. However, engineering colleges, diploma colleges, ITIs, and post-graduate courses will operate as usual.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the coastal region as heavy rains continue to affect Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, and Uttara Kannada districts. The precautionary holiday for anganwadi centers, primary and high schools, and PUCs is aimed at ensuring safety amid the ongoing inclement weather.

Over the past 24 hours, significant rainfall has caused flooding in many low-lying areas, impacting around 150 houses. IMD forecasts heavy rainfall for the next 4-5 days in the coastal region.

The heavy downpour has resulted in an estimated Rs 1.3 crore worth of damage, as reported by district authorities in Udupi.

Since Saturday, July 6, coastal areas have experienced intense rainfall accompanied by strong winds. Rainfall measurements across the district have averaged 110.0mm, with specific amounts recorded in Karkala (63.9mm), Kundapura (138.6mm), Udupi (118.0mm), Byndoor (147.3mm), Brahmavar (104.0mm), Kaup (79.5mm), and Hebri (95.8mm).

The public is advised to exercise caution and remain vigilant during this period of heavy rainfall and potential flooding.

    Last month when there was heavy rain and flood in UAE People from Indian(few) are saying many negative things about that country and trolling them.what about now in India how many bridges collapsed ,flood ,landdlifes, building collapsed ,train track in mumbai ,water leakage in Delhi Airport..We should not troll others and now we are suffering .

    Flooding not only in India but all over in the world is going to increase by each year. We wont escape from it will hit first people who are residing in low-lying years. Our planet consists of 3/4 water and rest occupied by the people. Due to over population some of areas which meant of sea reclaimed and constructed buildings and other structures. Where the water will go it will change the route and hit somewhere. Day-by-day sea level is increasing it's a alarming factor. Reason behind in antartica and in other places ice bergs are melted much due to ozone effect. Blamimg on anybody will not make any effect. We cant go against nature. It's after all a god's wish. Survivor the Fittest. It's human error in all respects. Chemicals which used in the name of development hit ozone layer and already made much damage already. So live as accordingly.
