Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Nov 2: The driver of an auto rickshaw, who got sandwiched between two heavy vehicles and was burnt alive in a gory accident that occurred on national highway at Pangala near here on the night of Monday October 31, has been identified. The ill-fated driver was Ravish Naik, resident of Nalkur-Muddur in Kokkarne village of Udupi district.

Naik’s auto was caught between a truck moving from Mangalore to Hubli, and an Eicher tempo going to Mangalore from Udupi, which collided head on. The fact that a huge fire was immediately kindled due to the accident, and the leg of Naik had got stuck in the mangled auto rickshaw made his rescue impossible. Sridhar Venkatesh Gawadi, truck driver, and Vijay Kumar, driver of the tempo had succeeded in jumping to safety immediately after the accident.

Ravish, working as salesman in the shop of Kishore Kamath in Katapady since the last about 15 years, used to sell spices and masala powder during the rest period through line sales. He was returning to Katapadi after selling his stock at Kaup, when tragedy stuck.

Ravish, second of the five sons of Kuyira Nik from Muddur, was a pillar of support for his family. He was honest and hardworking.
