Mangalore: Coast Comes Under Spell of Rain, Lightning

Mangalore, Nov 2: Most places in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts experienced thunder, lightning, and rain, late evening on Tuesday November 1. Beltangady and Mangalore taluks registered good rain coupled with lightning till late night.

Places like Manipal, Kaup, Uchila, Padubidri and Kundapur taluk in Udupi district recorded heavy rain and lightning. 18 women were injured due to lightning in Kasargod district. Bantwal and Sullia taluks got moderate rainfall.

As usual, power went off the moment lightning appeared, in most places. The city also experienced spells of darkness. The farmers, who have started harvesting their paddy crop, are facing problems because of the consistent rain, which does not allow harvested paddy to dry.

A release by the meteorological department said that it expects rain at many places in Karnataka coast and a few in southern interior Karnataka during the period till Thursday morning.
