Scores of NRIs to Head Home in Next Five Years: Survey

Daijiworld Media Network

New Delhi, Nov 2: A survey has revealed that there will be an exodus of NRIs during the coming five years into India. As per the finding of the said survey, about three lac Indian engineers presently working abroad will be turning towards their homeland between 2011 and 2015. Karnataka tops the list of their preferred destinations.

The survey was conducted by Kelly Services India Pvt Ltd, a global employment consultancy firm. As per its estimates, the major reason for this reverse brain drain is the uncertain employment scenario prevailing in foreign countries at present. These engineers are expected to be lured by employment opportunities that will be generated in India during this period. In addition to the volatile situation elsewhere, India’s fast-paced growth has also been working as a catalyst for their decision to return home.

Around 48 per cent of those who were surveyed, expressed happiness about their pay packages and perks abroad, but they are worried about the uncertain nature of the job market globally. The NRIs also have taken note of the fact that India successfully withstood the global meltdown.

They therefore feel that employment in India is more secure. Only 30 percent of those who were covered by the company were firm in saying that they will prefer to remain in their jobs in foreign countries.

Kamal Karanth, managing director of Kelly Services India, has estimated that the total remittances by NRIs into India during the last year was in the order of US$ 5,500 crore. He says that the NRIs have also been positively influenced by the stability shown by India against extreme odds elsewhere, and its vibrancy during the times of crisis abroad.

Better to be a 'well-to-do' man in a 'not-so-rich' country than to be a poor man in some rich country. Outside one's homeland one is always treated like a second-rate resident/citizen. In one's own country no matter what the problems are nobody can ask you to leave. That peace of mind one can get only in one's own homeland.

Such reports have been circulation for sometime now. But it all a load of bull. Those wanting to return are those who do not have a steady job in the first place. Nobody in their right mind would want to come back.
