'King' in Hard Times? Crisis Deepens as 130 Pilots Quit

Daijiworld Media Network

New Delhi, Nov 11: Liquor baron Vijay Mallya's Kingfisher Airlines is heading towards a deep crisis, with reports of around 130 pilots quitting and 149 daily flight cancellations doing the rounds.

Kingfisher had earlier stated that it was cancelling 50 flights every day till November 19, but on Thursday, only 269 of its 418 flights took off, as per sources. Also, around 130 pilots have quit over the past few weeks, it is learnt. Apparently, the airlines has been unable to pay salaries on time.

However, the airlines claims that the reason for the cancellations was reconfiguration of its airbus A-320 aircraft. But the fact remains that not only its pilots, but even its lenders, be it oil companies, aircraft vendors and others, are miffed with Kingfisher.

Sources said that some companies who have lent aircraft to Kingfisher want to take them back, among which are companies like International Lease Finance Corp, Investec Global Aircraft Leasing and GE Commercial Aviation which have leased out aircraft to the airlines.

Kingfisher airlines is said to be reeling under massive dues from all quarters, and even spare part lenders are demanding their dues back, it is gathered.

While it has been asked to pay for fuel on a daily basis by Indian Oil Corporation, Hindustan Petroleum and Bharat Petroleum have stopped supplying fuel and have filed court cases against the airlines.

The DGCA has demanded explanations from Vijay Mallya, who has reportedly assured that he would do so.

In the wake of such trouble, the airlines may either shut down, or cut down on its services considerably.

However, Vijay Mallya denied any plans of shutting down. "No shutdown, only ensuring loss minimisation by a flight rationalisation and enhanced revenue through reconfiguration of aircraft," he said.

Incidentally, the airlines has never reported a profit ever since it got listed.

Dear Vijay Mallya, till last year you were running the business on profitable manner and last year only you shown your desire to take over another Private Air Line too. But this year suddenly you started crying foul which is something fishy. You have money to sponsor Indian Formula One and you have money to bet in Horse Race all over the World but you do want to invest more money in King Fisher Air Lines? So, please close down your Air Lines Business and clear the road for some other Private Air Liners to continue in profitable business and avoid ill health competition.

Anyhow in the name of low cost budget air lines, you never charged low costs to any passenger and finally they end up paying equal charges to normal rate too like Air India Express did. All your staff made good money by working with King Fisher Air Lines because due to their high pay structure and I hope that they have saved enough money to survive for next few years without job too

Vijay MAllya is one of the few Indians who invested his time and money in India .He could have stated this in some other country as he had the brains and cash..He did not loot india to start his business !!!!

His contribution to India has surely made life very easier and travelling very convientient .

Only people with low thinking and uneducated people write some cheap comments...

Viajy Mallya is providing service to Indians and running his business ( Let it be through Airlines or Liquor ).NO ONE is forcing anyone to Fly Kingfisher or Drink beer !!!
When there are delays in Airline schedule or hike in beer prices , people blame Vijay Mallya directly !!!

If he is having a flamboyant lifestyle , he is doing with his money ... NOT WITH THE GOVERNMENT MONEY !!!!

DOES ONE KNOW WHY IS THE HUGE DIFFERENCE IN PRICES OF PETROL IN INDIA AND PAKISTAN ?? INDIA IS Rs 70 and PAKISTAN IS Rs 44.80.

I do not belong to any political party ... My ONLY question to all is when the Uneducated politicians loot our motherland with so many scams , does any one of you comment ??? Try fighting to guard for your country's rich resources , than commenting anything on someone who is trying to do something for India !!!!

Mr Vijay Mallya , I hope that things will be good for you again !

Every business has its ups and downs. When government is favoring the national carrier, it is challenging to compete with them especially when the entire airline industry is running on vapor thin margin.

Government should bail out Kingfisher because it is essential for nation's growing economy. We don't want to go back to the olden days of begging for airline tickets to reach home.

Vijay Mallya is a gutsy business man with style, class and an eye for quality and natural beauty. He is not like other cheap businessmen who spend only on lavish weddings of their daughters.

I am disappointed to read some of the comments on this legendary businessman.

Dear Boniface thank you so much for educating me. when i spoke about the taxes i clearly know that passengers are paying it . For Ex:- when you pay rs 3000 as ticket price 1700 goes for taxes and another 400 as user development fee (UDF)and another some for airport authority ... and again fuel. How come anyone live in this India . As business man i have to pay service tax/ income tax/ professional tax etc.. etc...
anyone can do the business in India ???????

Is this fuel hike only for Kingfisher or other airlines also. Again you mentioned about taxes, who is paying this tax, the airline operator or the passenger. As far as i understand, any tax is charged to the passenger. May be you are still living in dark. Kingfisher owes huge amount to fuel supplier such HP, IOC, BP. Do you still expect to fill their tanks with free. If you are doing the business and someone does not pay your outstanding amount (say 5 lacs), are you still willing to sell your commodities without paying the past dues. I dont think so. As you say he is business tycoon, then why to worry. Pay the amount. Regarding the fuel price hike, just take an example of UAE, where its capital city is the second largest oil producer in the Gulf and yet ENOC had a huge loss and had shortage of fuel. Moreover, inspite of having strict goverment controll over the fuel, still fuel is expensive in UAE. I agree that, Indian government should take measures to control the fuel price, at the same time one should realize the international crude oil market price.

Nothing will happen to Mr mallya. He definetely has other ideas. For a common man the oil companies will not give one litre of petrol also for credit. how did they give oil worth crores. Same thing applies with banks, no loans for poor, but rich are given huge loans without guarantee. The revolution must be around the corner

    People,

Most of the airline industry worldwide is in difficult times,,, taxes on aviation fuel (in fact all fuels) should be revised...there is dawn after darkness...good times will defintely come...Shreemaan Dr Mallya is eagerly waiting for it.

Iam really sick and tired of addressing these folks Drs,,, Mallya, Moily,Oscar etc etc....pity the institutions who gave them honorary doctorate!!!

I have a question for Petrolium and Finance ministry,,, ok oil prices are determined at international crude prices at USD 95 per barrel,,, 70% of oil is imported,,, what about 30% of Crude oil we produce ,,, which costs fraction of international prices???

Why this is not taken into consideration while determining retail prices of fuel???

Just to make thousands of crores profits to Ambanis,,, and get kickback from them???

    Jai Hooooooooooooooooooooo

    Regards,

    Langoolacharya

Just a couple of years back, Mallya was the first Indian Airline operator to order Airbus Superjumbo A380, that too 7 of them.
At that time, I knew that the airline is just a show and only for show.
A380 would be the first one to to fly from Bangalore to Mangalore incidentally.
    In dreams.

    Hi

Dr. Vijay Mallya is an business tycoon in India today. It is not the Kingfisher airline story what about the Government led Air India story.. Air India staffs not received their monthly pay since long ... who is responsible for this .. Everyday fuel price is getting higher and higher, Govt is having all sought of restriction in airline price chart almost 1600-1700 rs goes as tax per ticket, and also airline need to pay airport authority of India .. how can an airline industry sustain with so high taxes. What ever Mallya is doing may be looks wrong ... but what else can he do when our own government looting money from private airlines .
