Mangaluru, Aug 21: In a radiant manifestation of spiritual and intellectual engagement, Carmel School held an illuminating orientation for students from grades 6 to 10 on August 19 and 20. This meticulously designed event, led by Sister Lily Pushpa, the principal, and Dr Sister Prem D’Souza, the administrator, aimed to rekindle and elevate the students' spiritual connections and personal growth. Over two days, the young learners were immersed in a rich programme that sought to inspire and guide them on their journey of self-discovery and faith.

The programme commenced with a moment of serene meditation under the theme ‘Like a Watered Garden.’ This reflective practice was followed by a ceremonial lighting of the lamp, performed by Sister Lily Pushpa, Dr Prem D’Souza, and a distinguished panel of resource persons: Fr Robin Kumar from Bengaluru, Fr Ashwil Dias from Alangar, Fr Savio Fernandes from Mumbai, and Fr Ivan D’Souza from Goa. This symbolic act of illumination set the stage for a series of enlightening discussions and activities.

The resource persons offered a series of engaging and practical sessions. The focus on persistence and self-improvement included discussions on overcoming self-doubt and the importance of never giving up. The speakers provided actionable advice on setting goals, maintaining a positive mindset, and the importance of seeking help when needed. These insights were designed to empower students to navigate their challenges with flexibility and determination.

The exploration continued into the digital realm, where the resource persons addressed the impact of modern technology on personal lives. They offered practical strategies for managing digital distractions, such as disabling notifications, adjusting privacy settings, and taking control of one’s online presence. The discussions also covered the role of social media, urging students to understand its implications and to protect their personal information in an increasingly connected world.

The sessions also delved into the intricacies of relationships, highlighting the value of self-respect and the importance of meaningful connections with family, friends, and mentors. By drawing on relatable examples, such as the dynamics of family life and the essence of true friendship, the speakers illustrated how love, care, and mutual support shape one’s interactions and personal growth. Additionally, the program encouraged students to discover their unique capacities and set priorities in various aspects of life, including family, academics, and personal development.

In closing, the programme addressed moral responsibilities, leadership principles, and the significance of prayer. Through captivating anecdotes and vivid illustrations, the students were guided on the importance of cleanliness, anger management, and the role of prayer in their lives. The speakers emphasized the power of prayer and offered practical insights into its practice, reinforcing the idea that faith can be a powerful tool for personal and spiritual development. The sessions were enriched with memorable quotes and stories, leaving the students with a renewed sense of purpose and a deeper understanding of their own potential and values.
