Mangaluru: St Aloysius Institutions holds fruit tree plantation drive

Mangaluru, Aug 22: St Aloysius Institutions has invited all environment enthusiasts of Mangaluru to participate in the exciting new initiative: a fruit tree plantation drive aimed at turning Mangaluru into a fruit city. This initiative not only seeks to enhance the green cover of the city but also to promote sustainable living and local fruit production.

Taking forward the Fruit City initiative drive, a variety of fruit saplings were planted on August 14 in the premises of Lady Goschen Hospital. Dr Durga Prasad, the medical superintendent, Dr Jagadeesh, RMO and their hospital staff were present.

The rector of St Aloysius Institutions and the pro chancellor of St Aloysius Deemed to be University Fr Melwin J Pinto SJ, institutional development officer of St Aloysius Institutions Shilpa D'Souza, coordinator of Fruit City initiative Arjun Mascarenhas, along with students of the institutions gifted saplings of cat-eye-fruit to the speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly U T Khader, police commissioner Anupam Agrawal IPS and DCP Siddharth Goyal between August 16- 21.

MLC Ivan D'Souza while accepting the sapling felicitated the rector of St Aloysius Institutions for his initiative towards a greener city.

MP of Dakshina Kannada Capt Brijesh Chowta, an alumnus of St Aloysius Institutions, was glad to receive a sapling and ensured to spread a word of this initiative so that more citizens of Mangaluru will collect the fruit tree saplings of their choice from the institution.

Among other prominent personalities of Mangaluru, Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyasa Kamath, mayor Sudhir Shetty, leader of the opposition in the MCC Council Praveen Chandra Alva, MCC commissioner C L Anand, have happily accepted the fruit tree saplings and assured to support the initiative by growing these plants.
