M'lore: Expert PU Science College wins City Finals of 'Limca Book of Records Quiz, 2011'

Mangalore, Nov 19: Expert PU Science College won the Mangalore City finals of Limca Book of Records Quiz 2011 held here at Jugul Tower on Friday November 18.

 The young geniuses from the Expert PU Science College are amongst the 80 schools that will compete in the Semi finals. Kendriya Vidyalaya No 1 emerged as runners up in the city.

Around 132 students from 66 schools participated out of which six schools competed in the city finals, which are - Expert PU Science College, Kendriya Vidhyalaya, Chinmaya High Schol, St Theresa School, St Aloysius High School Kodalbail and St Aloysius P U College.

 The winning team was felicitated by sales manager of Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Pvt ltd, Karnataka Balaji J K.

Balaji J K in his address said that, Coca-Cola India believe that education is a catalyst for nurturing talent, allowing it to develop and excel. Limca Book of Records Quiz is one such facilitator of knowledge and learning. Such competitions are a great platform for students to learn, be aware and be competitive leading to their overall personality development.

Participating in the Limca Book of Records Quiz has always been an enriching experience for the students considering the quality, scope and magnitude of this event, he added.

He also said that having garnered an overwhelming response from schools across the country since the last 3 years this year too Limca Book of Records Quiz will witness similar zeal and enthusiasm from the students.

Balaji congratulate the winners of the competition and wished them all the best for the Zonal Finals.

Following the continuous success of Limca Book of Records Quiz since 2008, this year it has organized in more than 3500 schools to ignite young minds and make the pursuit of knowledge an engaging yet competitive process.

As a part of the multi city initiative 'Know & Grow with Derek' which involves participation of young minds from classes 8 to 12 a series of quiz competitions are organized in 3500 schools across 80 cities.

The quiz competition is divided into four zones - North, South, East and West. The quiz is being organized in three stages - Inter-school level, Semi-Finals and National Finals, from July to December, 2011.

Quiz Master Extraordinaire, Derek O'Brien, and founder 'Know & Grow with Derek' will host the National Finals. The entire database including content, research material and quiz software is being provided by 'Know & Grow with Derek'.

Derek O'Brien, founder of ‘Know & Grow with Derek’ said he is once again delighted to be associated with Limca Book of Records Quiz 2011; it has been a great association. Limca Book of Records Quiz is a fun and engaging way to stimulate knowledge and learning amongst students across the country.

He appreciated that since last couple of years, the quiz has received phenomenal response from schools and students and this year too he hopes to receive similar enthusiasm and participation.

“So once again let's all gear up for some great quizzing action,” Derek cheered.

The quiz takes its lead name from the Limca Book of Records (LBR) as the record book celebrates the outstanding achievements of Indians across the globe and is a source of inspiration especially for the country's youth.
