Sullia, Nov 23: President of Sullia block Congress committee, veteran leader, advocate, and town panchayat member, Venkappa Gowda, expressed appreciation for state Chief Minister, D V Sadananda Gowda (DVS) at the Padayatra organized by Congress from Sampaje to Mani in protest against the deplorable condition of the state highway on this stretch because of painstakingly slow pace of road works.

Addressing the protestors who had laid siege to the town panchayat here on Tuesday just before they were to leave for Puttur on Tuesday evening, Gowda, taking umbrage at the flex board which announced Yeddyurappa as the state Chief Minister, demanded for its removal and replacement with the board showing DVS, whom he addressed as ‘Our Leader’, as the Chief Minister. He said DVS is the leader of this place. The activists then raised slogans in favour of DVS.

District Congress president, Ramanath Rai, addressing the participants of the Padayatra at a meeting held at Kavu when it entered Puttur taluk on Tuesday accused the BJP government of neglecting this region. “Our Chief Minister hails from this region. But what is the use?” he questioned.  Other speakers like AICC member, P V Mohan, and KPCC secretary, Ivan D’Souza, also heaped criticisms on the state government.

Party leaders like Ashwin Kumar Rai, Mithun Rai, M S Mohammed, Nityananda Mundody, Bharat Mundody, Rajeevi Rai, Abbas Ali, Saraswati Kamat, T M Shahid, C P Jayaram, Dr Raghu, and many others were present.

At the meeting, Venkappa Gowda handed over party flag to Hemanath Shetty, Puttur block Congress president.
