Kasargod: Police Beat Up Television Crew - Protest Held

Kasargod, Nov 26: After members of a teleivision team were rounded up and beaten up by police, media persons from the taluk held a protest procession in the town on Friday November 25.

Earlier in the day, Fauzia Mustafa, crew of India Vision television channel, video grapher of the channel as well as the driver of their vehicle were beaten up by about 25 police. The crew was returning after video graphing children of police studying in a private school in Uliyattadka being taken to school in police van and police jeep. The police, numbering around 25, intercepted their vehicle ar Parekatte, surrounded the crew, and beat them up. The television crew members were injured because of police atrocity.

Fauzia said she ran into a nearby hotel to escape from the police brutality. She alleged that the police personnel chased her into the hotel too, beat her up, and kicked her in the abdomen. Superintendent of police, T Srishukan, rushed to the spot after learning about the incident, and took the media persons to his office. Fauzia said they were abused by several police there with derogatory words, besides posing threats.

The injured media persons are undergoing treatment in a hospital here.
