Puttur: Recovery of Brown Sugar – Another Accused Arrested

Puttur, Nov 30: Relating to the recovery of a consignment of brown sugar worth over one crore rupees from near Kavu here on Sunday night, the policemen have succeeded in making another arrest. Raju alias Rajashekhar (26), a native of Kanakapura near Bangalore, who is believed to be the main operator of the drug cartel, was arrested on Tuesday from near Mani in Bantwal taluk. The arrest was made by a team led by police sub-inspector of Puttur rural station, S Anand.

The policemen said that with the above arrest, they have succeeded in making a major headway in investigation, as they believe Rajashekhar to be a very vital link in the entire operation. The policemen, who had been searching for Raju on the basis of information extracted from the arrested accused, succeeded in finding him near Mani village. He was produced in sessions court, Mangalore.

Reportedly, Milan alias Mili from Jagalur, Davanagere, is a friend of Raju. Raju is said to have encouraged Mili to enter brown sugar trade. The packet of brown sugar found in Puttur, it is gathered, was handed over to Mili by Raju. Mili then prepared a plan to sell the stock with the help of his friend, Sannit K Shet from Jagalur, and Shet’s friends, Sanat Kumar Naik, and Anish K V, the policemen added.

The policemen were worried over the information they were getting since some time, about the sale of tiny sachets of brown sugar in the town. The policemen, with the help of their informants, asked the accused to reach Kavu by bus. All the four arrested have been remanded to judicial custody by the sessions court in Mangalore.

Circle inspector of rural police station here, H Y Jagadish, has taken up investigation under the guidance of deputy superintendent of police, M B Nagaraj.
