Mangalore, Nov 30: District secretary of CPM, B Madhava, said that a protest meeting is being organized in front of the office of Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner here on Thursday December 1, against the decision of the union cabinet to allow foreign direct investment in retail sector.

Addressing a press conference in the city on Tuesday November 29, Madhava said that Confederation of All India Traders has given a nation-wide bandh call on December 1, to protest against the above decision. He sought support from all sections of the society for the proposed protest programme. “The UPA government has bypassed the parliament which is in session, and overlooked the strong opposition to the proposal by the opposition parties, in taking this decision. This anti-people decision was taken under pressure from foreign countries including USA, and multi-national companies,” he felt.

CPM state secretary, K R Shriyan, and city unit secretary, Sunil Kumar Bajal, were present at the press conference.

    Protestors forget there will be 49% investment by Indian Companies as well.
    Traders welfare is not supreme but survival of the fittest in any market.
    If CONSUMERS get benefited by competitive trading- then why the majority of people- who are consumers should be prevented along with farmers who have the freedom to sell their produce directly to the highest payers by the opportunity of opening hyper markets?
