Mangalore: Bandh Call – Normal Life Unaffected in Coast

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Dec 2: The nation-wide bandh call given by merchants, which was supported by opposition parties including BJP and CPM on Thursday December 1 failed to have the desired impact on the normal lives of the citizens in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. The call was given in protest against the approval given by the union cabinet for 51 percent foreign direct investment in retail sector, which the opposition claims, will ruin the small sized retail traders.

While many shops and establishments had downed the shutters in the city, in other places including Udupi, this was not the case. The bandh call received partial response, with traffic movement remaining undisturbed. Small retail shops, to accord protection to which the bandh call was given, were found to be fully operational in most of the places.

The FDI is not going to pay any bribes to the UPA or BJP.The media and RTI is very strong to dig out every information if anyone found paid any cash or kind to approve the licenses and permissions to the foreign investors. The poor farmers are the beneficiaries including small scale industries. Only certain retailers in the heart of the city or near the chain stores are affecting. The general public is at the receiving end on everything that is sold by these stores because of the competitions. The farmers will have a better bargain due to competition in buying .. The parties who are opposing only to show the attendance that they exist.
