Udupi: Ornaments worth Eight Lac Rupees Stolen Within an Hour

Udupi, Dec 2: Thieves who entered an apartment located at Gopalapura in Santekatte Puttur here on Wednesday January  30 evening, succeeded in laying their hands on 42 sovereigns of gold approximately valued at eight lac rupees.

Pushpa (29), owner of the house, had locked the door of her apartment at 4.30 pm on Wednesday. She visited her brother’s home to bring her child, and returned at 5.45 pm.  She was taken aback to find that 42 sovereigns of gold ornaments had been stolen within this short span of time from the almirah kept in the bedroom of her apartment.

In a complaint filed in the town police station here, Pushpa said one of the keys of the front door of her flat had been lost about a month back, and efforts to trace it had failed. It appears that either the lost key or a duplicate key was used to open the door of her apartment. The policemen of town station here have registered a case and begun investigation.
