Udupi: Daniel Monteiro’s Philatelic Exhibition ‘Birdpex–2011’ Begins Dec 7

Udupi, Dec 3: ‘Birdpex–2011’, a solo philatelic exhibition by internationally renowned philatelist Daniel Monteiro, office staff of St Mary’s Syrian (SMS) College, Brahmavar, will be held at SMS College auditorium on Wednesday December 7 and Thursday December 8.  The exhibition will feature some rare postal stamps from Monteiro’s collection.

Deputy commissioner Dr M T Reju will inaugurate the exhibition at 10.30 am on Wednesday.

SP Dr Ravikumar and Mangalore Urban Development Authority commissioner Ajit Kumar Hegde will be the chief guest on the occasion.

SMS College correspondent Fr Ramban G M Scaria will grace the occasion. SMS College principal Professor K Narayan will preside over the programme.

Brahmavar Little Rock English Medium School principal Professor Mathew and Dakshina Kannada Philatelists’ Association president M K Krishnayya will attend the programme.

Kudremukh Wildlife Division–Karkala deputy conservator of forests Prakash S Natalkar and Fr Ramban G M Scaria will be the chief guests at the concluding function on Thursday December 8.

Brahmavar Sports Club president Dr Prakash Tolar, Udupi District Philatelists’ Association president Vittaldas Shanbagh will attend the programme.

‘India Book of Records’ adjudicator Dr Ramachandran will felicitate Monteiro for creating a new record.
Professor K Narayan will preside over the programme.

About 5,000 postal stamps of birds of over 170 species will be displayed at the exhibition that will create a Guinness Record, because it’s a solo exhibition that will be held for the first time in Asia.  .
Stamps of waterfowls, herons, songbirds, woodpeckers, cuckoos, bustards, water birds, birds of prey, owls, hornbills, pelicans, terns, and other birds will be displayed along with relevant information.  Some of the stamps are over a century old and are very precious.

Monteiro has participated in international philatelic competitions held in Hong Kong, China, Thailand, Austria, Korea, Indonesia, Singapore, Belgium, and South Africa besides India.  He has bagged 10 international awards so far and has found a place in the ‘Limca Book of Records’.  This exhibition will create another Limca record and also in the India Book of Record.
