Mangalore, Dec 4: As a part of Children’s Day celebrations Lady hill unit of the Lions club organized Inter school Science Talent Contest – 2011 recently. Meritorious science students from English medium schools in and around the city participated in the event.
Contests were held at Milagres High School, tenth standard students from 29 schools and seventh standard students from 27 schools participated in the contest. Around 431 students participated in the science talent contest.
The prize distribution ceremony foe the competitions held on November 13 was held at Milagres High School hall on November 20, where in parents, teachers and students participated.
The president of Lions Club, Mangalore Lady Hill unit Vincent L D’Souza presided over the function. Lions district Governor and chief guest Lion MJF P Kishore in his address appreciated the efforts of Lions Club, Lady Hill in spreading awareness in students through such projects.
82 Prizes were distributed to the successful students in both categories. The winners of the seventh standard category were - first place shared by two students ASHISH PRABHU of Sharada Vidyalaya and DAREN LOBO of Lourdes Central School, Where as Yenepoya Saad of the Yenepoya School and Roshini Shetty of Lourdes Central School won the second and third place respectively.
In the tenth standard category Vivek of Sharada Vidyalaya won the first place and Manish Patkar of Dr N S M English High School won the second place. The third place was shared by two students – Mahendra K of Sharada Vidyalaya and Ananth K Bhat of Amruta Vidyalayam.
The Lion district cabinet coordinator Lion Aravinda Shenoy Kudpi, Lion region chairperson for Region III Ln MJF M C Shetty, Lion Zone chair person for Zone II Ln Chandrahasa S N, Treasurer Ln Jecintha Saladhna and other members of Lions club were present among others.
Secretary Lydia D’ Costa proposed the vote of thanks and Arthur Pais Compered.
