Mangalore: Paying Guest-cum-thief Behind Bars

Mangalore, Dec 5: Nirmala Veena Poojary (35), a native of Mundkoor and resident of Mumbai, who had decamped with gold jewellery belonging to the owner of the house in which she used to stay as paying guest, has been arrested by the policemen. Nirmala, who had succeeded in convincing Varija Shetty living in Attavar 6th Cross Road here to provide her accommodation as paying guest about a week back through Varija’s neighbour, had fled with the ornaments she had borrowed for taking her photograph in a studio here, on November 30. She had given her name as Savita while entering Varija’s house as paying guest.

The policemen belonging to Pandeshwar police station arrested her on Sunday December 4 from the railway station here. Reportedly, she was trying to flee to Mumbai. The policemen also confiscated gold ornaments worth Rs 1.5 lac and cash amounting to Rs 50,000 from her possession. 

The policemen have gathered that Nirmala, who had been married, used to work in a foreign country before shifting her base to Mumbai about 15 years back. It is said that she had defrauded the owners of house in Mulky some time back by using similar trick.
