Mangalore: Varsity to Hold International Conference in Chemistry from Dec 8

Mangalore, Dec 5: The department of Chemistry, Mangalore University will conduct a three-day international seminar on ‘Synthetic and Structural Chemistry’ to commemorate the year of 2011 as “International Year of Chemistry” at Mangala auditorium, Mangalagangotri from December 8 to 10,  stated Dr T C Shivashankara Murthy, vice-chancellor Mangalore University.

Speaking to the media persons on Monday December 5, Dr Murthy informed that, the aim of the conference is to provide a forum for exchange of ideas and create an environment for collaborative endeavors in the emerging frontier areas. The organizing committee thus cordially invites the delegates and aspirants to participate in the event, he added.

The conference is designed to provide a forum for researchers and scholars within India and abroad to have a wide ranging discussions and critical debate on recent experiments and theoretical ideas in the fields of ‘Synthetic and structural chemistry’. The event includes lectures from an eminent chemists, oral presentations and poster sessions. It is a good opportunity for the younger scientists to get exposed to the excitement of chemical research, said Dr Murthy, vice-chancellor who is also a chemist.

During the commencement of international Conference,  T N Guru Row will deliver the key note address. And M R Gajendragad, Dr K A Suresh, Dr P M Akbarali will be the guests of honour. T C Shivashankar Murthy will preside over at the inaugural function. 

On December 10, the concluding session of the conference will be conducted at 2.30pm.  H K Fun,University Sains, Malaysia will deliver the valedictory address. B S Sherigara,former vice Chancellor,Kuvempu University, Dr K J Divakar, executive director, Syngenta Biosciences will be guests of honour. S P Hiremath, former vice chancellor, Kuvempu University will be preside.

The international conference has been taking place from last one year with help and support of UGC and other national- international Science institutions. A total of 300 research papers will be presented orally and poster forms. More than 500 delegates from various parts of India and abroad will be participating in the conference, as briefed Dr B Thimme Gawda, chairman, organizing committee, the international Conference. 

At the press meet, Balakrishna Kalluraya, convner,  A.M Abdul Khader, treasurer were present along with Dr T C Shivashankar Murthy, Vvice chancellor, University of Mangalore.
