Moodigere, Dec 6: Some Ayyappa devotees who were returning from Sabarimala pilgrimage were washed away in Bhadra river near Hebbale Bridge in Kalasa of Moodigere taluk on the evening of Tuesday December 6.
 
Gajendra (30), Madana (29), Thyagaraj (29), Gopi (28), and K T Babu (30) are the victims. Tulasiram, who was also pulled by a current of water, managed to swim to safety. All these were residents of Laxmipura in Chittur district of Andhra Pradesh.
 
They were returning to their hometown after visiting Sabarimala, Dharmastala, and Horanadu Anna Porneshwari temples after a five-day tour.
 
Around 4.45 pm on Tuesday, they got down near the bridge to bathe. The tragedy occurred at this time and Kalasa police rushed to the spot.
