Udupi, Dec 7: The 55th death anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr B R Ambedkar was observed in a meeting held at Ambedkar Bhavan on Tuesday December 6. It was organized under the auspices of the district administration, ZP, social welfare department, Kannada and culture department, district Dalit organizations, as well as social welfare and voluntary organizations.
TP president Devdas Hebbar presided over the meeting on Tuesday morning.
City lawyer Manjunath Giliyar delivered the keynote address.
Speaking on the occasion, ZP president Katpady Shankar Poojary said that Dr Ambedkar, the architect of Indian constitution, will always remain in the memory of every Indian. “It’s owing to casteism that untouchability flourished in the country and many visionaries tried to reform society. Despite their social reforms, the situation of the least in the society has not improved. The people’s representatives are expected to work in this regard,” urged Poojary.
ZP CEO Prabhakar Sharma and district social welfare officer L Shivalinge Gowda were present on the occasion.
Kannada and culture assistant director S H Shivarudrappa welcomed the gathering. Akashvani artiste Ganesh Kumar Gangolli compered the programme.
