Puttur, Dec 8: Acting on a tip off, the forest mobile squad, Mangalore, launched an operation and succeeded in seizing wooden stuff worth Rs 3.5 lac and an Eicher vehicle (KA12- 5009) valued at Rs 1.5 lac in which the wood was being transported.

Forest ranger Prashanth Kumar Pai and ACF Chandrashekar led the operation as there was intimation of an illegal supply of wooden stuff being transported from Karnataka state to Kerala state since a week.

But since the smugglers were aware that government vehicles have a number plate with the letter G, they managed to escape. But yesterday, the forest department officers took a private vehicle and caught the Eicher. The accused, Razaq of Puttur, managed to escape. The vehicle was seized at the border at Kumbra in Puttur.
