Bangalore: Four Central Teams to Visit Karnataka for Drought Assessment

Bangalore, Dec 9: Four central teams will be visiting Karnataka on December 14 on a two-day tour to assess damages caused by drought, Karnataka’s Agriculture Minister Umesh Katti told the Legislative Assembly on Friday.

In reply to a question from BJP member Dr Sarvabouma Sathagouda Bagali, the Minsiter said four teams comprised senior Central officials would tour different parts of the State and assess the damage caused to various crops.

The State government has already declared 100 taluks as drought hit following deficit rainfall in September, the last month of the monsoon.

The Minister explained that the Centre has not responded to the State Government’s plea for over Rs 700 crore relief to tackle the drought situation in the state.
 
The State Government had recently written to the Centre apprising it about the drought situation in the state, the crop loss incurred and sought a relief of over Rs 700 crore.
