Mangalore, Dec 12: Outgoing IGP Alok Mohan (western range) addressing reporters at his office here on Monday December 12, thanked the general public and the media for their cooperation and support.

Stating that crime rate in the western range had reduced, he said while last year 92 robbery cases were registered, this year there were only 56. He said tight police vigil in coastal districts made this possible.

There were 81 theft cases last year, and only 53 this year, he said, and added that in the last10 years drastic changes had taken place with regard to police communication with the public. "Earlier, public feared to communicate with police personnel, but now the situation has changed," he said.

However, it is true that due to stress, they might have dealt with people roughly and severely at times, he admitted.

He said that he would be leaving for Singapore and Harvard universities (6 months each) for further studies, and will be back in Mangalore after a year. "I have already got the relieving letter from the government, and I will be doing masters in public management for which I have got fellowship from the universities," he said.

"It is a rare and good opportunity," said the IGP who had earlier undergone training with Scotland Yard police.

Pratap Reddy, who was IGP in fire services, will replace Alok Mohan as IGP of western range and is expected to take charge in the coming days.

Guess the outgoing DGP does not consider theft, murder, underworld honchos making rounds in mangalore, smuggling as crime, then yes crime has reduced.

Mr. Gonsalves, you seem to be having good contacts in the police department. So why did it take so long for the government to cancel the cases against the christains in the 2008 riots. I would appreciate if you can use your contacts to help people...

Seeing the daily newsreports of increasing crime: abductions, killings, drug mafia, extortion, accidents, prostitution, housebreaking, chain snatching, cheating, suicides, I think Mr. Mohan is not telling the truth!! The truth is in front of every Manglurkar's eyes

IGP Alok Mohan has indeed served the four southern districts well. He is a peoples' man and every one has a good word for him ... He is approachable and any one can meet him with any legitimate grievance and he is always there to lend a ear to the problems faced by people. His leaving Mangalore creates a void. However he is not going a relocation but is proceeding to Singapore and U.S.A. for further studies. Mr. Mohan has all along been a scholar and is a compulsive reader.

His tenure in Mangalore has been very successful as the crime rate has gone down considerably. His returning to Mangalore is very doubtful as it is felt that by the time he returns from studies he will be promoted as Additional Director General of Police and there is no place for a person with such designation in Mangalore. I join scores of people in saying ADIEUS to Mr. Mohan. May his tours abroad be successful and may he return to India better informed and better qualified.

Mr. Mohan has set his foot on the ladder of advancement and he will never look back. We all wish him the best of everything and eagerly await the day to see him head the department as The Director General of Police, Karnataka State.

Au Revoir Mr. Mohan and God be with you.
