Singapore, Dec 1: Tuluver Singapore’s Deepavali celebration on November 9, brought the vibrant traditions of Tulunadu to life for the Tulu community in Singapore, offering a truly memorable festival experience.
The meticulously planned event showcased the diversity, culture, and festive spirit of the homeland, connecting overseas Tulus with their roots.
Months of preparation by volunteers, artists, and community members culminated in a seamless celebration at the NTU Auditorium. The venue was filled with the soothing sounds of Tulu, instantly transporting attendees back to their roots. Over 200 guests, dressed in traditional attire, radiated the spirit of Tulunadu, transforming the auditorium into a warm, nostalgic gathering.
The evening kicked off with a sacred lamp-lighting ceremony, led by Nityananda Hegde and Rajesh Acharya, followed by a series of lively performances including Yakshagana, folk dances, Bharatanatyam, comedy skits, Mangalore Baila, and Bollywood songs. A major highlight of the event was the unveiling of Tuluver Singapore’s official logo, designed by Nishith Hegde. The logo symbolises the seamless blend of Tulunadu’s cultural heritage and Singapore’s modernity.
The event also saw the launch of a new website for the Tuluver Singapore community, designed to keep overseas Tulus connected. Krishna Prasad Acharya led the initiative, which was well-received for fostering closer bonds among the global Tulu community.
Interactive sessions, including quizzes about Tulunadu’s traditions, further enhanced the festive spirit. As a gesture of goodwill, the association presented Yakshagana crowns made by special children from Karkala’s Chetana School to all attendees.
The event concluded with a traditional Mangala song, followed by a grand feast, leaving everyone thoroughly satisfied and united in their shared heritage. The 2024 Deepavali celebration was a resounding success, offering a unique and enriching experience for the Tulu community abroad.
