South Goa disburses Rs 2.52 crore as relief for monsoon calamity victims

Panaji, Dec 8: In a significant effort to support those affected by natural calamities during the monsoon season, the South Goa district administration has sanctioned and disbursed ex-gratia relief worth Rs 2.52 crore.

A total of 530 claims were submitted by property owners whose homes and assets suffered damages during the disaster. Of these, 480 claims have already been processed, with compensation amounts distributed. The remaining 50 applications are expected to be approved and funds disbursed by December 31, according to environment minister Aleixo Sequeira.

Speaking at the South Goa District Collectorate after a review meeting, the Minister revealed that Salcete taluka recorded the highest number of claims at 175, followed by Ponda with 117.

Minister Sequeira highlighted that the government’s proactive approach in addressing these claims aligns with the commitment made by chief minister Pramod Sawant during the recent session of the Goa Legislative Assembly.
