Moodbidri, Dec 23: The local policemen succeeded in intercepting a truck bearing Maharasthra registration and rescuing 22 buffaloes which were reportedly being transported from Maharashtra to Kerala for being butchered, on Thursday December 22.

The buffaloes reportedly were meant for slaughterhouses located in Kerala. On a tip off, the local circle inspector, A K Timmaiah, along with sub-inspector, Ramesh Kumar and other personnel signalled the said truck to stop at Kasaragadde Beluvai near here. The lorry did not stop, and continued its onward journey, upon which the policemen chased it and stopped the truck by obstructing its movement by parking their jeep in front of it at Bannadka village. They found 22 healthy buffaloes being transported without any documents in the truck.

The value of the cattle has been estimated at Rs 1.6 lac, and that of the truck, six lac rupees. The cattle and the truck have been confiscated. The accused, K Bala, Babu, Hamid and Samir, who were arrested, have been released on bail, the policemen revealed.
