Udupi: ‘Bheeshmana Kadeta Dinokulu’ Wins Kemtoor Award

Udupi, Dec 28: ‘Bheemshmana Kadeta Dinokulu’ play, which was presented by Sumanasa troupe from Kodavoor near here, was adjudged the best among the plays which vied with each other to win the coveted annual Kemtoor Doddanna Shetty Award. The competition was organized at MGM College here by Tulukoota Udupi in association with Academy of General Education Manipal and MGM College.

The award comprises citation and Rs 10,000 cash reward. ‘Orimastrena Kathe’ presented by Karnataka Sangha Matunga Mumbai, and ‘Karnikada Balelu’ staged by a local troupe, Karavali Kalavidaru, have bagged the runner up and second runner up positions respectively.

The award meant for best director went to Dr Bharat Kumar Polipu for ‘Ori Mastrena Kathe’. The award for excellent stage setting, lighting and makeup was bagged by ‘Bheeshmana Kadeta Dinokolu’. Girish Tantri, who provided music for ‘Karnikada Balelu’ won the reward meant for best music. M S Bhat, who donned the role of Bheeshma, annexed the ‘Best Actor’ award, while   Chandrakala S Bhat got the award set aside for the best actress, for her excellent portrayal of the role of Maldi/Tanni in ‘Karnikada Balelu’.

Theatre and music director, Dr Shashikanta K, Neenasam graduate, R Manjunath Shetty Nitte, and theatre personality, Seetaram Shettigar, judged the performances.  The awards function will be held at 5.30 pm on December 30 at Muddana Mantapa of MGM College, informed Tulukoota president, Dr Bhaskarananda Kumar, and convener of the competition, Santosh Shetty Hiriyadka.
