Mangalore, Dec 29: ‘We firmly condemn the celebration of New Year on January 1. It has no meaning and spiritual significance rather a complete copy of western lifestyle, rued Ramanand Gowda.
‘For Hindu’s, new year begins not on January 1 but during the month of Ugadhi. It is the beginning of Hindu New Year. It marks the onset of spring, greenery, academic results and the new beginning’, reasoned Ramananad Gowda, district co-ordinataor, HJS, here at the press meet held by Hindu Janajagruti Samithi (HJS) on Thursday December 29.
The Indian tradition is lost and the influence of western style is accelerating. Our intention is to stop this way of partying, drinking alcohol, dances and DJ’s till late night and also the burning of old man, he said. We are not only against practicing New Year day on January 1 but will also try to stop celebrating Valentine's Day and other western practices here.
We have distributed posters, hand bills and flexes are put up, schools and colleges are being informed to create awareness about this non-Indian and senseless practice. We already informed the police to take enough measures against the wrongdoers and the hotel management, he added.
