Udupi, Jan 15: Udupi police superintendent Dr Arun K issued a clarification after villagers of Mundli in Shirlalu, Karkala taluk, alleged that police personnel attempted to stop a Yakshagana performance taking place late on the night of January 15.

In the clarification, Dr Arun K stated, "Last night in Ajekar, the police received a complaint from the public regarding an event being organized without prior permission and causing disturbances due to the use of loudspeakers during the night. Upon investigation, it was found that the organizers had not obtained the necessary permissions to hold the event or to use loudspeakers.

"Despite instructions from the police at 11:30 PM to stop using the loudspeakers, the organizers refused and continued the event until 4:30 AM. Consequently, a case has been registered against the organizers at the Ajekar Police Station for conducting the event without permission and using loudspeakers during the night," he added.

The SP emphasized that prior permission is mandatory for the use of loudspeakers in any cultural event and that police can take action if this is violated. "It is hereby clarified that prior permission is mandatory for conducting cultural events in public spaces and for using loudspeakers. The police are committed to taking action in accordance with the guidelines of the Honorable Supreme Court if any complaints are received from the public regarding such violations," Dr Arun K stated.

The clarification aims to address concerns raised by the villagers and reaffirm the commitment of the police to maintaining order while respecting cultural traditions.
