New Delhi, Jan 19: AAP supremo and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday alleged a "murderous attack" on him during election canvassing, claiming that Delhi has never witnessed such violent campaigning.
The AAP has accused New Delhi BJP candidate Parvesh Verma’s “goons” of orchestrating the attack on Kejriwal’s vehicle on Saturday during campaigning in the New Delhi constituency.
Speaking to the media, Kejriwal said, “This is their way of campaigning because they are badly losing. The people of Delhi have never seen such violence in elections.” He dismissed Verma's claim that Kejriwal would lose the New Delhi seat by 20,000 votes, quipping, “Let him live in dreams for some days.”
Amid the controversy, Kejriwal also highlighted his vision for improving housing for government employees in Delhi. In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he proposed a housing scheme wherein the Delhi government would construct homes if the Centre provides land. He suggested beginning with sanitation workers as beneficiaries and expanding to other government employees with easy repayment terms.
This incident marks yet another flashpoint in the heated election campaign in Delhi, with both parties trading allegations as polling day approaches.
