Kundapur, Jan 4: Concreting work of Thirthahalli-Kundapur state highway that passes through Balebare Ghat, which is also known as Hulikal Ghat, has begun. Consequently, the district administrations of Udupi and Shimoga districts have directed vehicles plying between the town and Shimoga to take alternative road.

Balebare Ghat road has always been an important link between the coast and the Malnad districts. The vehicles now have to reach Kollur and then move to Shimoga through Nagar, Hosanagar and Ripponpet, after traversing Nagodi Ghat Road. Light vehicles can take Halady-Someshwar, Agumbe Ghat and Teerthahalli route.  Heavy vehicles coming from Udupi can move via Karkala, Kerekatte, Sringeri, Begar, Bidragod, Agumbe and Teerthahalli before moving to Shimoga. Vehicles moving on the stretch of this road up to Hosangady from Kundapur can continue to take the normal route, the notifications issued by the deputy commissioners of these two districts said.
