Puttur, Jan 4: Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday Jauary 3, Puttur MLA, Mallika Prasad, said that a delegation led by her under the banner of Hindu Women’s Welfare Forum had met Puttur assistant superintendent of police, Anuchet, and handed over a memorandum addressed to the state director general of police. She said that they had demanded him not to do anything to save the guilty policemen. “If steps to ensure justice are not taken, we will continue to fight for the same,” she warned.

Zilla panchayat member, Asha Timmappa Gowda, questioned the agitating wives of policemen as to whether they are aware that their husbands had offered urine to those innocents arrested by the policemen, when they sought water to drink while being lodged in the police station.  “Are these women supportive of the atrocities inflicted by the policemen in the name of government service? We have been suffering from agony and insult caused by the atrocities and police raids. If they are striving for justice, why were they silent against social  evils like brutality against women, Love Jihad etc?” she questioned.  She pointed that the policemen had barged into the houses of many people on the nights of December 14 and 15, pushed the women of the households around, before dragging away their husbands to police stations. She hoped that the wives of policemen will realize at least now that their husbands are working like puppets in the hands of anti-social elements. “While we empathize with their plight, we condemn their stand of supporting wrongdoings of their husbands,” she added.

When questioned about the ministers and MP not having visited Sullia even after several days of the incident, president of Sullia assembly constituency BJP unit, Venkat Dambekody, said that the issues concerned have already been discussed at the government level by the ministers and the MP, and that the they will be taken up at the party forums soon.

Former taluk panchayat president, Suvarnini, and advocate, Muralikrishna Challangar, were present at the press conference.
