Udupi: DSS Stages Protest Seeking Judicial Inquiry Into Constable’s Death

Udupi, Jan 5: The Karnataka Dalit Sangarsh Samiti (DSS) staged a protest in front of the new headquarters of the deputy commissioner on Wednesday January 4, urging the state administration to order a judicial inquiry into the death of head constable Yogish Padakannaya who was killed in a mob attack near Katpady outpost while the New Year musical concert was underway on Sunday January 1.

The protesters urged that a case be registered under the Dalit Atrocities Act to transfer SP Dr Ravi Kumar and take legal action against him for twisting the case of the deceased policeman.

The protesters alleged that Kaup sub-inspector Mohan Kottari and police constable Prasanna are directly responsible for the death of Padakannaya, and demanded that both of them be sacked and cases registered against them under the Dalit Atrocities Act.

Karnataka DSS demanded a compensation of Rs 20 lac to the family of Padakannaya who belongs to the Dalit community, and sought security for all policemen serving in the district.
DSS district leaders Shekar Hejamady, Ramesh Kotian, Krishna Kaje, Sundar Anjaru, and Shubhakar Padubidri were present on the occasion.

    At least there one organisation which is protesting against the unfortunate incidence that resulted in death of PC Padakannaya.
    For kind information of DSS,Padakannaya is a Shivalli Madhwa Brahmin and not a dalith as reported.
