Udupi, Jan 24: B Y Raghavendra MP Shimoga-Udupi constituency has directed officials to ensure 100 percent implementation of centrally-sponsored schemes and programs within the stipulated time frame.

Presiding over the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting at the Dr V S Acharya Hall, Manipal, he highlighted that the central government has implemented many schemes and programs for the welfare of the common people. It is the responsibility of the authorities to implement it within the time frame set by the government by utilizing the funds released for the schemes appropriately.

B Y Raghavendra, said, “There is an opportunity to create permanent jobs by providing employment to the local people under the Mahatma Gandhi Employment Guarantee Scheme, and its progress in the district should exceed the set target. He also instructed that there is an opportunity to build a bridge under this scheme, and that it should be utilized well and built in the Malnad areas.”

Addressing the welfare of the Koraga community, MP Raghavendra noted that their population is declining yearly and urged officials to reach out to them directly to deliver benefits such as ration cards, Aadhaar cards, Ayushman Bharat health cards, and other government schemes. He stressed the necessity of providing the sanctioned Rs 4.5 lacs per household under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana to eligible members of this community. He also directed priority construction of 16 multipurpose centers at a cost of Rs 60 lacs for their benefit.

The MP commended Udupi district for securing the third position in Karnataka in the processing of applications under the Vishwakarma Scheme, calling for its benefits to be extended to all eligible applicants.

Regarding rural water supply, MP B Y Raghavendra instructed forest officials to provide necessary land for the multi-village drinking water supply project without delay. He urged the swift completion of projects in Byndoor constituency costing Rs 784 crore and other talks with a sanctioned amount of Rs 1,600 crore.

B Y Raghavendra stressed expediting the land acquisition process for the Hebri, Parkala, and Karavali Junction to Malpe National Highway projects worth Rs 1,412 crore. Additionally, he called for the timely execution of port and fisheries-related development works for which funding has already been approved, directing officials to secure CRZ clearances promptly.

MP Raghavendra also highlighted the importance of effectively implementing the Swachh Bharat Mission “The most ambitious project of the Prime minister, which will improve the health of the common man, should be carried out with the utmost responsibility. The implementation of these has not been done adequately in the jurisdiction of some local bodies and this should be emphasized.”

The Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, Mp Ragavendra urged the local bodies to ensure proper execution of the Pradhan Mantri Matru and Vandana Yojana in their jurisdictions. He expressed concern that Rs 65 crore allocated by the central government in the previous year remained unutilized and was returned.

MP Ragavendra further instructed that under the Jal Jeevan Mission, scientific water pipeline installation should be ensured for rural areas. Complaints regarding substandard work were raised, and he directed the Zilla Panchayat CEO to inspect and take corrective action.

MP Kota Srinivas Poojary emphasized providing training and financial support under the Vishwakarma Scheme and creating opportunities for unemployed youth through various central government initiatives. He suggested involving RUDSET for skill training programs. “Unemeployment is a major problem in the district. The authorities should provide facilities to the youth through various schemes of the central government and provide opportunities for self-employment,” he said.

Legislative Council member Dr Dhananjay Sarji addressed the unscientific use of fertilizers by farmers, which leads to water pollution due to chemicals like aluminum entering rivers. He suggested soil testing and distribution of soil health cards to provide farmers with appropriate guidance on fertilizers and suitable crops.

MLAs Yashpal A Suvarna, Gurme Suresh Shetty, and Gururaj Shetty Gantihole, along with deputy commissioner Dr K Vidya Kumari, Zilla Panchayat CEO Prateek Bayal, and other officials, were present at the meeting.
