Mangalore, Jan 5: JDU will be trying to make inroads into the city corporation here, which has been the bastion of either BJP or Congress so far. Dakshina Kannada district convener of the party, Harish Alva, announced at a press conference held here on Wednesday January 4 that the party has fielded Stella Fernandes as its candidate for the bypoll being held for Tiruvail ward of the city corporation.

The bypoll is being held on January 10, to fill up the vacancy caused by the resignation of independent corporator, Jyothi Jayaprakash, who had got elected in the last election.

He said that the people of the city, fed up by the administrative failures of both Congress and BJP, are looking at alternative choices now. “We have fielded Stella with the aim of achieving overall progress of this ward,” he said.

Harish claimed that the party had no hesitation or confusion in finalizing its candidate, and that it will be fielding candidates in all the 60 wards of the city corporation in the election being held next year.

JDU organizing secretary, John Francis D’Souza, and Dharmendra were present at the press conference.
