Mangaluru, Jan 26: “Through struggles and strife, I'll stand tall; for my country I'll give my all.” These words of patriotism echo in the hearts of every Indian on National significant days. Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru celebrated the country’s 76th Republic Day, on January 26, commemorating the historic adoption of the Indian Constitution, which came into effect on this day in 1950.
The ceremony commenced with the arrival of the chief guest, Lieutenant Colonel Gracian Sequeira, whose dedicated service of over 36 years in the Indian Army has earned him numerous accolades. The NCC cadets escorted the chief guest, along with the joint secretary Sr Josephine Pais, administrator Sr Carissima, vice principal Sr Teena and PTA vice president Preema D’Costa, to the flag post, accompanied by the rhythmic beats of the school band.
NCC sergeant Kevin Kushalappa and Corporal Mahendra Vasanth warmly invited the chief guest to unfurl the National Flag. Filled with patriotism, the chief guest unfurled the Flag as the gathering saluted and paid homage during the soulful rendering of the National Anthem by the school band. This was followed by an impressive March Past ceremony, highlighting the troops’ discipline and synchronized movements. Tr Nishain’s insightful commentary enriched the ceremony as all the houses, led by their captains, marched proudly to the rhythmic beats of the band.
The cultural programme by the students of grade VII C, D and E began with a prayer, invoking divine blessings for the nation. This was followed by a vibrant welcome dance that set the tone for the celebrations. Dianne Coelho and Joywin Carlo extended a warm welcome to the gathering, and the chief guest was presented with a flower sapling as a token of respect and gratitude.
A brief presentation shed light on the significance of Republic Day, tracing the journey of the Indian Constitution and highlighting the importance of preserving and upholding the values it embodies. The students showcased their talents through a captivating medley of patriotic group song and a thematic dance performance. Featuring a series of popular patriotic tunes, the performance kept the audience thoroughly engaged and enthralled.
The chief guest, Col Gracian in his address, appreciated the students and staff for organizing such a wonderful programme. He emphasized the importance of unity, reminding everyone that a nation’s greatness stems from the greatness of its citizens.
The vice principal Sr Teena announced the winners of the best marching teams. From the grade V & VI section, the first runner-up position was secured by the Blue Bells while the coveted winner’s title was awarded to the Tulips. In the grade VII & VIII section, the Tulips showcased commendable effort, earning them the first runner-up position, while the Orchids emerged victorious, bagging the winner's title. Sr Teena congratulated all the participants and the mentors for their dedication and teamwork.
The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Dakshith and Reema, expressing gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of the event. To add a touch of sweetness to the celebrations, sweets were distributed to the gathering. The event was seamlessly coordinated and hosted by Anish, Eva, Joywin, Dianne, Dakshith and Reema.
