Mangaluru: Yenepoya Research Centre hosts national conference ‘MiCON 2025’

Mangaluru, Jan 27: The Yenepoya Research Centre, a premier institute under Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), successfully hosted the much-anticipated MiCON 2025 national conference on January 25. The MiCON 2025 – ‘Divergence and Surveillance of Microorganisms,’ brought together over 100 participants from across the country, showcasing groundbreaking research and fostering collaboration within the microbiology community.

The inauguration ceremony of MiCON 2025 was graced by distinguished guests and officials from Yenepoya (Deemed to be University). The event witnessed the presence of Dr B H Sripathi Rao (pro vice chancellor) and chief guest Dr Sharmila Mande (AYUSH distinguished scientist chair, ministry of AYUSH, government of India) and Dr Tanaji Kudre (principal scientist, CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysuru). Adding to the occasion were notable dignitaries, including Dr Laxmikant Chatra, principal, Yenepoya Dental College and Dr Sham S Bhat, dean, Yenepoya Dental College.

Dr Rekha P D, chairperson of MiCON 2025 and director, research and development, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), along with Dr Bhagwan Rekadwad, secretary MiCON 2025 and associate professor were instrumental in organizing this prestigious national conference.

The first half of the conference was marked by an enlightening keynote address by Dr Sharmila Mande on ‘Exploiting microorganisms for health and wellness’. Following this, Dr Girish Mahajan, Senior vice-president, microbiology department, HiMedia Laboratories delivered an insightful talk on ‘Advance in microbiome research: innovative Media solutions, strategic culturing and customization for breakthroughs in Health and Sustainability’ though online mode.

In the second half, Dr Tanaji Kudre addressed the audience with an invited talk on ‘Harnessing the power of probiotic bacteria for the development of meat-based bio functional food products.’ This session was complemented by oral presentations from participants representing different states, showcasing the diverse range of ongoing research in the field of microbiology. Additionally, around 20 poster presentations were displayed, covering various research topics in microbiology.

The conference recognized outstanding contributions through the presentation of best oral and poster awards. The budding microbiologists also received due acknowledgment with the presentation of the budding microbiologist award. The event concluded with valuable feedbacks from the participants.

MiCON 2025 served as a dynamic platform for sharing knowledge, ideas, experiences and fostering collaboration among microbiologists from across the nation. The conference emphasized the vital role of microbes in building a sustainable future and addressing global challenges.
