Udupi: Sode Swamiji Stands Ground, Refuses to Accept Petition

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Jan 10: Hopes of finding an amicable solution to the feud between the eight mutts here on not extending an invitation to Puttige Mutt head, Sri Sugunendrateertha Swamiji, to Paryaya Darbar, were  almost dashed, when Sode Swamiji refused to accept a petition presented to him by a delegation led by Kaup MLA, Lalaji R Mendon.

The petition, signed by scores of citizens from Kaup region, had urged the would-be Paryaya Swamiji to make efforts to diffuse the controversy that has arisen because of the Swamiji’s refusal to extend invitation to Puttige Mutt Swamiji to Paryaya festival, by including Puttige Mutt in the celebrations. The petition was presented when Sri Vishwavallabhateertha Swamiji, head of Sode Mutt, who is touring the religious centres as a prelude to his enthronement as the Paryaya Swamiji on January 18, visited Lord Janardhana Temple in Kaup on Monday.

On Sunday, the people of the region had decided to present a memorandum to the Swamiji during his visit, requesting him to begin initiatives towards ending enmity between different mutts. When the delegation led by Mendon approached the Swamiji with the petition, he said the controversy relates to the Mutts and that he is not inclined to make his response to the petition known. “I request politicians not to interfere in the issue of Paryaya. If they want to submit petitions, they may be handed over at the mutt in Udupi,” he reportedly told the delegation.

Kaup Lord Janardhana Temple managing trustee, M Jayaram Hegde, Vidyaniketan Group of Educational Institutions convener, K P Acharya, managing trustee of Hosa Marigudi Kaup, Nadikere Ratnakar Shetty, temple Tantry, Vedamurty Shreesha Tantry, JDS district president, Deviprasad Shetty, Kaup gram panchayat president, Yogish Rai, and others were present.

It is very sad and unfortunate to note that Paryaya comittee has taken such a decision. In a true spirit Sri Sugunendra Teertha Swamiji should be the first one on the list of invitees as he has gone above and beyond to spread Madhva Philosophy around the globe. Srigalu is a one of the greatest Saints and Visionary of Modern times who practices "nAnA janasya sushrUsha" at all levels and Strives hard for spreading knowledge around the Globe. Srigalu has initiated not just temples in all of North America but events like Mettilotsava Since past 10 years Hundreds of Madhwas travel from all parts of North America for Mettilotsava which includes Gnana Satra, Mettilotsava to Srinivasa Temple with singing of Dasara Padagalu....Youth Programs like Quiz on our Sampradaya, Talks about how youth can practice our shastra in this part of the world , Sanskhipta Devara Pooja workshops that can be performed even at dorms for our Youth are some of the events that are planned as part of Annual Mettilotsava Other than this Initiative, Srigalu has initiated Aradhanas of Our Yatigalu in Devotees homes which have been followed since many years.. Bhagavadgita ,Vayu Stuti,Sumadhwavijaya, Harikathamruthasara Classes, Dasara Padagalu classes ,ekadashi bhajane and many more are held at different locations in all parts of NA which were intiated by Srigalu Increasing number of people are doing pitrukaryas at Puttige branches in North America Teerta Prasad is happening everyday at all the branches These are very few of his initiatives to spread Dvaita Philosophy . Hope Sri Krishna will bestow appropriate gnana to the committee and they will recitfy their mistake soon

I would have really appreciated had there been unity among the Astha Mathas, just because Puthige Shree left the shores of India does”nt mean disqualification, you have to see his enornomous contribution to Madhwa society, after all we claim as Jagad Guru Madhva Acharya and jagad means entire world including Bharata varsha, let us not bring petty politics, let there be unity among all the Astha Mathas.

I strongly urge the Paryaya comitee to offer invitation to Shri Puttige Swamiji

With due respect to all the Swamijis, whatever their personal differences are, they should be sorted out amicably. Swamijis should never be egoistic and self centred and have to be a role model to the common people. They are there to worship the Lord on behalf of all his followers and guide the people and show them the right way. Sowing hatred and division reflects badly on them as well as our hindu culture.
