Mangaluru, Feb 7: The Mangaluru City Crime Branch (CCB) police have arrested a man who had been absconding for 12 years after being involved in three theft cases.

The accused, Abdul Hameed (50), a resident of Natekal near the government hospital, currently residing at Kolpe Mane, Konalu village, Kadaba taluk.

He was wanted in connection with thefts committed in 1999 under Mangaluru East police station limits and in 2012 under Mangaluru North police station limits. He was accused of breaking into parked cars and stealing valuables. Although he was arrested and later released on bail, he failed to appear before the court for trial and had been evading authorities ever since.

Based on gathered intelligence, the CCB police apprehended Abdul Hameed near Dharmasthala and handed him over to Mangaluru East police station for further legal proceedings.

The operation was led by CCB ACP Manoj Kumar Nayak, police inspector Rafiq K M, PSI Narendra, and CCB personnel.

Mangaluru police commissioner Anupam Agrawal IPS has commended the team for successfully tracking down and arresting the long-absconding accused.
