Bengaluru, Aug 27: Yash-starrer Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups has made a strong opening at the Indian box office, crossing the Rs 100-crore mark on its first day. However, the film has fallen short of Yash's own opening-day record set by KGF: Chapter 2.
Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the action thriller released in theatres on August 26 amid considerable buzz. According to trade tracker Sacnilk, Toxic collected around Rs 101.10 crore across 24,579 shows on Day 1 in India.
The Hindi version emerged as the biggest contributor with Rs 55 crore, followed by the Kannada version with Rs 23.30 crore. The film recorded an overall Hindi occupancy of around 54 per cent, with the strongest occupancy reported during night shows.
Despite the impressive start, Toxic could not surpass KGF: Chapter 2, which remains Yash's biggest opening-day grosser in India. Prashanth Neel's directorial had collected Rs 116 crore on its first day.
KGF: Chapter 2 earned Rs 53.95 crore from its Hindi version, Rs 26.4 crore from Telugu, Rs 22.85 crore from Kannada, Rs 7.9 crore from Tamil and Rs 4.9 crore from Malayalam on Day 1.
Toxic, directed by Geetu Mohandas, stars Yash in the lead, with the actor reportedly playing the dual roles of Raya and Ticket. The cast includes Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Tara Sutaria, Huma Qureshi, Rukmini Vasanth and Akshay Oberoi in key roles.
The film is produced by Venkat K Narayana and Yash under KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations.
With a strong opening and positive response from Yash's fans, the film will now look to sustain its momentum over the coming days.
