Scooter collides with goods rickshaw in Kundapur, rider succumbs to injuries

Kundapur, Feb 19: A fatal accident occurred on National Highway 66 near Chempiya Vishwakarma Sabha Bhavan, Saligrama, on February 18, when a scooter collided head-on with a goods rickshaw.

The scooter rider, Gundmi Ananth Hegde (40), lost his life in the crash. His co-rider, Vishwanath Nayak, the manager of Chempi Temple, sustained serious injuries and was admitted to Brahmavara Hospital for treatment.

The goods rickshaw was traveling from Udupi to Kundapur, while the scooter was heading from Saligrama towards Gundmi. The vehicles collided head-on near the Sabha Bhavan. The impact of the crash threw Ananth Hegde onto the road, causing severe injuries. Despite immediate assistance from locals and an ambulance, he succumbed to his injuries while being transported to the hospital.

Kota police arrived at the scene, conducted an investigation, and registered a case.

    We indeed have good roads, but the public lacks civil sense. Why do we normalise riding/driving on the wrong side? Why can the public follow basic road ethics? this is something not in control of any governing body. I believe the fines should be 3x more and AI-based cameras on every corner, like the gulf. direct fine sent to the road users' mobile.

    Every week there are accidents on this highway, Many people 2 or 4 wheeler swith on ndicator and travel on the wrong side in One way , and at junctions people suddenly take U TURN or cross from service road to highway, majority accidents happen due to undisciplined driving

    Whatever we say about safety, accidents keep happening here and there. People are usually careful but a moment of forced distraction is enough at those high speeds. RIP to the departed soul. Gone too young. Let us wish strength to the bereaved family members and speedy recovery to the injured.
