Ensure only men occupy seats reserved for them: KSRTC directive

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Feb 21: The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has issued a directive to its staff to ensure that only men occupy seats reserved for male passengers.

Following the implementation of the Shakti scheme, the number of women passengers on government buses has increased, leading to complaints that male passengers are unable to find seats.

In response, the KSRTC Mysuru divisional controller recently issued an order instructing drivers and conductors to ensure that seats reserved for men are not occupied by women. The directive has now come to light.

The order was issued after a complaint by a passenger named Vishnuvardhan S, who stated that women were occupying seats reserved for men on Mysuru city transport buses, leaving male passengers without seating.

As per the directive, all operational units have been instructed to ensure that male passengers are allotted seats reserved for them. Additionally, all driving staff have been asked to follow this guideline and submit a compliance report.

Make provisions to book, reserve seats for men as they pay, both for the seats and reservation fee. You cannot have free and seating. All busses need to have this provision: if men pay, they need to have the right to reserve seats in all busses. It is a paid service.

There is no seat reserved for men in buses. Reservation of seats for women in buses is required because, in a male-dominated society like India, if there is no reservation, men will occupy every small space. Women will be discouraged from travelling. This is such a regressive move. Everyone should study some sociology in schools.
