Udupi: Speeding car injures pedestrian in Parkala

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (JD)

Udupi, Feb 22: A tragic accident on Parkala main road resulted in seriously injuring a car driver who was fatally struck by another vehicle while crossing the road.

The injured has been identified as Ramesh Nayak (55). He was hit by a high-speed car after parking his vehicle and attempting to cross the road near a shop where he had briefly stopped. The impact was so severe that his body was dragged a significant distance, and his footwear was found scattered on the road. He sustained critical head injuries, leading to heavy blood loss, with splatters reaching the opposite side of the road.

This location on the national highway has become a notorious black spot, with multiple pedestrian fatalities reported. The absence of a central divider and incomplete road construction work by contractors have contributed to the rising number of accidents in the area. At least five pedestrians have lost their lives at this junction so far.

Ramesh Nayak, a resident of Shedigudde, was returning after dropping his wife at a nearby hospital for her duty when the accident occurred.

Witnesses reported that the speeding car, traveling towards Shivamogga, struck Nayak as he was crossing. Following the accident, local residents assisted in transporting the injured man to Manipal Hospital in the same vehicle that hit him.

RIP 😞! Result of unscientific construction of expressways without any safety checks & balances in place; we have the disreputation of having the highest RTA casualties in the world; every day 100s of innocent people die in fatal accidents; while I'm typing this somebody might have had a gory end somewhere in the country!!

Safety is least important in 3rd world countries because nobody cares much about life except other than themselves and family members. For Politicians and contractors this is nothing other than a business. General public have no voice to stand up with politicians because we made them god and supreme of above god. This is a fault of public who vote such people over over again. Sad to hear so many people die in such circumstances

Rest in peace. Why no speed breakers installed even after 5 fatal accidents?

"He was hit by a high-speed car" - no doubt about the speed of the car BUT the issue to be controlled is driving the car at high speed.
