Mangaluru, Feb 27: Police commissioner Anupam Agrawal has responded to allegations against Urwa police regarding their conduct with cyber-crime accused. The controversy revolves around three main accusations.
It was alleged that Urwa police travelled to Rajasthan with the accused at their expense, showed undue friendliness towards them, and even took selfies with them. Additionally, during the investigation at the police station, college students were reportedly allowed to interact with the accused under the pretext of a cyber-awareness programme.

Commissioner Agrawal assigned CEN ACP Ravish Nayak to conduct a preliminary inquiry. The investigation revealed that the flight tickets were booked by the Urwa police inspector using departmental funds, disproving claims of the accused covering expenses. However, during the investigation in Jaipur, Rajasthan, a head police constable was found guilty of misconduct for taking a selfie with the accused. Disciplinary action has already been taken, and the constable has been suspended.
Regarding the college students' visit to the police station, the commissioner confirmed that the Urwa inspector had explained the accused's cybercrime activities to them. However, as per police regulations, criminals should not be presented before students. Due to this violation, departmental disciplinary action has been initiated against the Urwa police inspector.
Commissioner Anupam Agrawal assured that necessary measures have been taken to uphold police conduct and procedures.
