Mangaluru: YIASCM celebrates 4th annual sports day

Mangaluru, Feb 26: The Yenepoya Institute of Arts, Science, Commerce, and Management, a constituent unit of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru, celebrated its much-anticipated 4th Annual Sports Day on February 26 with great enthusiasm and competitive spirit. The event was held at Mangala Stadium sports ground, bringing together students, faculty, and sports enthusiasts.

The event was inaugurated by Siddarth Goyal, IPS, deputy commissioner of police, who emphasized the importance of sports in shaping discipline and teamwork among students. His inspiring words set the perfect tone for an energetic and action-packed day.

The occasion was graced by esteemed chief guests Pradeep Kumar Acharya, an international athlete and powerlifter, and S B Supriya, an international athlete in high jump. They encouraged students to embrace sports as a way of life and shared their experiences in international competitions, motivating young athletes to pursue excellence.

Adding further prestige to the event, Dr B H Sripathi Rao, pro vice-chancellor of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), attended as the guest of honour. His presence and support highlighted the institution’s commitment to fostering sports and overall student development.

The event was presided over by the principal, Dr Arun A Bhagawath, whose leadership and encouragement played a vital role in making the event a grand success. Vice principals Dr Shareena P, Dr Jerevan Raj, and Narayana Sukumara also graced the occasion, lending their support and appreciation to the participants.

The entire program was efficiently coordinated under the guidance of Anandvelu, physical education director and convenor of the event, who ensured a smooth and well-organized sports day. Chaithra L Shetty, assistant controller of examinations, welcomed the gathering. The formal program concluded with a vote of thanks by Sheethal Nayak, lecturer.

A variety of track and field events, team sports, and individual athletic competitions were held, showcasing the remarkable talent and sportsmanship of students. The winners were felicitated with medals and trophies, celebrating their hard work and dedication.

Pradeep D'Souza, deputy director, department of youth empowerment and sports, Dakshina Kannada, and Tharanath Shetty, All India medalist and secretary, Dakshina Kannada Athletic Association, were the chief guests for the valedictory ceremony.

The sports day concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Deekshitha Prashanth, assistant professor, who expressed gratitude to all the dignitaries, faculty members, teaching and non-teaching staff, students, and volunteers who contributed to making the event a resounding success. The event not only promoted physical fitness but also instilled a spirit of camaraderie and resilience among students, making it a memorable day for all.
