Beirut, Feb 28: The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed on Friday that an airstrike in northeastern Lebanon killed Hezbollah militant Mohammed Mahdi Ali Shaheen.
The strike, carried out in Hermel on Thursday evening, targeted Shaheen’s vehicle with drone attacks, leaving one dead and another injured, according to Lebanese health authorities.

The IDF accused Shaheen of coordinating weapons transfers between Syria and Lebanon for Hezbollah since the ceasefire agreement took effect. “His actions posed a threat to Israel,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, another Israeli airstrike hit the outskirts of Ainata in southern Lebanon. The IDF claimed it targeted a Hezbollah reconnaissance site, calling it a violation of the Lebanon-Israel ceasefire terms.
Despite a US-French mediated truce since November, tensions persist, with Israel maintaining military presence at five border points beyond the agreed February 18 deadline.
